Synopsis:
The units are to be utilized as fire fighting trolleys, as a first turnout reaction in the event of a fire emergency.
The units are to be all-terrain type trolleys, as they will be used in rural areas, where no formal road and minimal infrastructure exist.
The trolleys are to be easily maneuverable by a minimum of two people when fully laden.
The wheels are to be of minimum maintenance type solid rubber wheels, that do not require any greasing and are wide enough to not get bogged down in sandy conditions.
The trolley are to have a minimum of four wheels with a turn table and a draw/ steering bar.
Tank:
The tank has a capacity of 250lt
The tank is a Roto - Moulded Linear Medium Density Polyethylene (LMDPE) plastic tank.
The tank has a 150mm vented manhole with a screw on lid.
The tank is UV stabilized and is guaranteed for 10 years against degradation.
The tank has a nominal wall thickness of 7mm.
The tank is black lined to prevent algae growth.
Tank held into position with two webbing straps and ratchets.
Construction:
The chassis frame is a lightweight space frame manufactured from 100mm x 50mm x 1,6mm mild steel rectangular tube.
The frame is a 38mm x 1.6mm, steel pipe frame incorporating all components of the unit, including the pump.
The drawbar is a 1.5m x 38mm x 1.6mm steel pipe handle for pulling / steering.
2 x 25mm solid steel axles with reinforcing braces.
4 x double width wheel barrow wheels to allow use in softer sand.
Front wheels mounted on a turntable.
Pump and engine:
Robin EY 15 (3,5hp) 4 stroke petrol engine.
The pump is a close-coupled aluminium centrifugal pump.
The pump has an open impeller that allows for dirty water pumping, and ensures minimum maintenance.
The pump can pump solids of up to 5mm.
The pump shall be capable of delivering a minimum of 500lt/min, which shall be used for tank refill capability.
The pump shall provide a minimum fire-fighting pressure of 3bar.
Hose, nozzle and plumbing:
The unit is fitted with one 15m x 20mm heavy duty PVC mining hose rolled up on pegs, which is mounted on the frame.
The hose is fitted with a fixed delivery 5mm jet nozzle delivering a constant 20lt/min.
The nozzle shall be easily removable so as to allow cleaning of the nozzle, should it become blocked.
The plumbing shall be of galvanized and thermo plastic type fittings, and shall allow for tank to pump suction, open source to tank suction lifting for tank re-fill, disharge to tank from pump for tank fill, and discharge to hose and nozzle for fire fighting.
A 3m x 50mm suction hose and heavy duty strainer shall be supplied with each unit for tank refill from open source.
